1. INTRODUCTION

All visitors wishing to enter the United Republic of Tanzania must obtain an appropriate visa, except nationals of the listed countries on the following link: www.moha.go.tz

Nationals of the East African community need neither visa nor entry permits to enter the United Republic of Tanzania.

If you are not a citizen of any of the above countries, you must obtain a visa in advance to enter the United Republic of Tanzania.

The granting of a Tanzanian Visa is, in effect, only a form of pre-entry clearance. It does not guarantee permission to enter Tanzania. The immigration Officer reserves the right to grant or deny admission. Visa holders are subject to normal Immigration control at the port of entry. They should therefore carry with them, for possible presentation to Immigration officers, the documents submitted with their applications.


2. TYPES OF VISA

Walk-in Visa applications will take 3 working days to process. Visa applicaitons done via registered mail can take up to 15 working days. You will leave your passport with the Embassy.  There are two types of visa.

1. Travel visa

A Travel visa is granted to foreigners who wish to enter and remain in the United Republic of Tanzania for a certain period of time.

Requirements for Travel visa:

1. Valid Passport (which has two-page spread and 6 months validity)

2. 1 duly filled Application Form: (Visa application form in fillable PDF-Format)

3. 2 Passport standard Size Photos(4.5cm x 3.5cm)( of passport standards by international requirements, no portrait pose, no school photos, strict rules apply)

5. A photocopy of Return Ticket or Flight Confirmation Slip

  • A travel visa holds a validity of three (3) months with effect from date of issue and a maximum period of stay of ninety (90) days.
  • Remaining validity of the passport at the time of issuing such visa shall not be less than six (6) months.
Travel visa has the following categories (the purpose of entering the United Republic of Tanzania):

2. Business Visa

A Business visa is granted to foreigners who wish to enter and remain in the United Republic of Tanzania for a certain period of time for business purposes.

Requirements for Business Visa:

1. Valid Passport (which has two-page spread and 6 months validity)

2. 1 duly filled Application Form: (Visa application form in fillable PDF-Format)

3. 2 Passport Size Photos(4.5cm x 3.5cm)

4. Application Fee

5. A photocopy of Return Ticket or Flight Confirmation Slip

6. Official letter from Company or an Invitation Letter from the Tanzania counterpart.

3. Referred Visa

A Referred visa is granted to some nationalities of certain countries who may require their requests to be referred to Tanzania before hand. For more details, please visit our Immigration website.

***** Referred Visa’s will take longer to process. Take into account that it will take 3 months for this process after you have applied at the Embassy. (This includes Travel Documents, “Small Passport”)*****

Requirements for Referred visa:

1. Valid Passport (which has two-page spread and 6 months validity)

REGISTERED MAIL: If you wish to send your application via registered mail, Please include a return envelope and return stamp. Registered Mail can take 10-15 working days. Sample of stamp can be seen here. Please do no buy the black and white stamp as other post offices will not accept it and we will have to contact you to send 8,50 or the green stamp as shown here.

Please note: If the issued visa expires before being used, you are required to apply for a new one by fulfilling all previous conditions without exception and once a visa is issued, the fee is non-refundable.

Those who enter Tanzania for purposes of business and wish to stay for a longer term (more than 90 days) are advised to apply for a work permit. The application should be submitted to the Director of Immigration Services at the Immigration Headquarters.

3. APPLICATION PROCESS 

The Embassy is open for visa application from Monday to Friday at 10:00am to 1:00pm, excluding Tanzanian National Holidays and Dutch National Holidays.

 

Diplomatic or Official Purpose

For trips for a Diplomatic or Official purpose please include (where relevant):

1. Recommendation letter from Company/Organization/School or an Invitation Letter from the Tanzania counterpart (Unnecessary for Leisure & Holidays (A1) | Visiting friends and relatives (A2) visas)

2. Note Verbal (Diplomatic or Official purpose only)

Please note that if the issued visa expires before being used, you are required to apply for a new one by fulfilling all previous conditions without exception and once a visa is issued, the fee is non-refundable.

JOURNALISM/FILMING AND RESEARCH PERMIT

Journalism/filming and research permit is obtained from the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports, Tanzania (Information Services).

The application procedure for each permit is as follows.

Gratis visa

Diplomatic/Official passport holders will be granted gratis visa, except when travelling on unofficial capacity in which case they are subject to pay prescribed fees.
This also applies to Laissez-passer holders of the UN, SADC, AU and other International Organizations recognized by the United Republic of Tanzania.
